Fire season on the horizon: Santa Anas fan flames that are more dangerous than summer blazes, study says
Heavy economic damage could be averted, according to Jim Randerson, a professor of Earth system science at UC Irvine and a co-author on the paper. “We can’t keep increasing new exposure with new developments in high-risk, high-wildfire corridors,” Randerson said. “There needs to be a greater commitment to planning to limit our exposure.”

Researchers are expecting an explosive fire season in Southern California
A recent study out of UC Irvine found that Santa Ana winds have caused almost 10 times more economic damage than fires not related to Santa Ana winds. They also say historically, there are more fatalities and more destroyed or damaged structures in fires related to the winds.
