Greenland ice sheet hides huge ‘impact crater’
Dr Mathieu Morlighem, a team-member from the University of California, Irvine, US, commented: “When you think about it, the bed below the ice sheets has to have impact craters that have not been explored yet, and there may even be some in Antarctica as well, but more radar measurements are necessary to locate them, and dating them is extremely challenging.”

$14.7 Million Grant Will Help Literacy Outreach Program Expand
A literacy outreach program for grades 7-11 that has found success in Southern California has just been funded to expand to six additional states, with the intent of eventually taking it nationwide. The “Pathway to Academic Success Project,” run out of the University of California, Irvine (UCI), received a five-year, $14.7 million from the Department of Education’s Office of Innovation & Improvement. The program was initially launched more than two decades ago in the Santa Ana Unified School District by principal investigator Carol Booth Olson, a professor of education at UCI.

LITVAKdance: telling human stories through movement
LITVAK dance founder [UCI alumna] Sadie Weinberg wants to introduce more dance “voices” to San Diego. … The guest choreographers who contributed to “Fall Concert” also teach, so the show will reflect a range of themes and influences … Teresa Jankovic, for instance, earned her master’s degree from the University of California, Irvine, and served as rehearsal director to the late African-American choreographer Donald McKayle, whose work focused on social injustice and the human condition. Her dance, “Redemption,” reflects her Christian faith with themes of hopefulness and overcoming challenges.
