“At that point in time, the glaciers will react,” said Eric Rignot, a climate scientist at the University of California, Irvine, who has done extensive research on polar ice. “If the ice shelf breaks apart, it will remove a buttressing force on the glaciers that flow into it. The glaciers will feel less resistance to flow, effectively removing a cork in front of them.”

New UCI research could help treat baldness, excessive hair growth
UC Irvine scientists published research Tuesday, July 11, showing how hair follicles communicate across different regions of the body, which could eventually lead to treatment for baldness and excessive hair growth. Researchers, including Maksim Plikus, professor of developmental and cell biology, used a mouse model to replicate poor hair growth that leads to baldness.
