College esports teams offer scholarships for video gamers
Today nearly 200 universities are collectively offering about $15 million in scholarships and investing in top-tier facilities creating programs that rival college athletics departments. “I really do believe that competing in a digital environment is how we will compete in the future.” Program Director Mark Deppe brought esports to UC Irvine in 2016, he’s provided equipment, jerseys, even physical therapists. … [Landon Stubblefield, UCI esports player said], “I’m really glad I came to UCI, this environment is like no other.”

Coronavirus fears prompt hoaxes and misinformation
“With some of those rumors on social media and across multiple platforms and also in multiple languages, the misinformation has been spreading,” said Sherry Main, UC Irvine’s assistant vice chancellor of public affairs. The school has created a podcast about coronavirus misconceptions that has played on local radio and also plans next week to launch an educational campaign featuring hand-washing stations on the campus’ main thoroughfare. Muralist puts love on the wall at UC Irvine
Nancy Guerra, dean of UCI’s School of Social Ecology, said the school invited [Alex] Cook to paint the latest mural because of its message. The mural … is part of the school’s Compassion Action Project, a partnership among the School of Social Ecology, the UCI Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation and the Living Peace Foundation. “One of the School of Social Ecology’s goals is to promote compassion,” Guerra said. CBD Oil for ADHD: Research on Treating Symptoms
Daniele Piomelli, professor of anatomy and neurobiology at the UCI School of Medicine and director of the UCI Center for the Study of Cannabis at the University of California, Irvine, says that “in the case of cannabis and CBD, we do not know a lot of what we think should be pretty clear. When we talk about CBD oil, one would expect that there should be a definition of CBD oil using a pharmaceutical or medicinal context. One would expect the appropriate authorities to define what it is. But right now, we have a situation where there as many definitions as there are companies that are marketing CBD oil.”

The most famous willpower experiment ever conducted is the ‘marshmallow test’. … Dr Tyler Watts at New York University along with Prof Greg Duncan and Haonan Quan at University of California, Irvine, staged a similar experiment. … In the 2018 paper, they found that the children who were able to hold out for the larger marshmallow reward still did better, but to a much smaller degree than the original research showed. Not only that, but once factors such as their family background and parents’ educations were taken into account, the effect was even smaller.
