Pioneering Black Choreographer, Director Donald McKayle Dies
Donald McKayle, a modern dancer and choreographer who brought the black experience in America to the Broadway stage in musicals such as “Raisin” and “Sophisticated Ladies,” has died. He was 87. His wife, Lea McKayle, told the University of California, Irvine that McKayle died Friday night. He was a UCI professor emeritus of dance.

Groups debate if California has gone too far on crime reform
Two earlier measures affecting mostly lower level offenders have had no effect on violent crime and minimal effects on property crime, said University of California, Irvine, researcher Charis Kubrin. Her results, to be published in August by the academic journal Criminology & Public Policy, are consistent with unaffiliated research by the Public Policy Institute of California on the effects of earlier changes, though researchers say it’s too soon to gauge results from the 2016 initiative.
