Irvine, Calif., April 28, 2014 – UC Irvine’s 50th Anniversary Committee is seeking ideas from artists interested in creating a distinct and original work of art for the cover of a 176-page, glossy coffee-table book that will track the campus’s rise to prominence over its first 50 years.

Art in any medium is acceptable. From the entries, five finalists will be invited to submit proposals, one of which will be awarded the $2,500 commission.

The selection process will be as follows:

  • Artists will provide images of previous work and biographical information online.
  • Jurists will choose five finalists, who’ll each receive $100 to develop a proposal.
  • Finalists will have six weeks to enter proposals.
  • One finalist will be selected to create the artwork for the book cover.

Please submit the following to ucirvine.slideroom.com:

  • Your name, address, phone number and email address
  • Current one-page resume and/or bio
  • Brief statement of intent (no more than 50 words)
  • Five to 10 JPEG images (150 dpi) of your work
  • Image index with titles, sizes, materials and dates of work

Name image files with the title of the work (may be abbreviated) and your last name (example: The Goldfish_Matisse.jpg). The deadline for the initial entry of existing work is May 7.
