Carmona served in the Bush administration as the 17th surgeon general of the United States from 2002-06. After leaving office, he was critical of its interference and suppression of scientific findings for political and ideological purposes. He widely lectures on national and global health challenges. Currently, Carmona is a professor at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona.

Carmona’s talk is part of the Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellows Series, which brings to UCI global scholars who illuminate the challenges and possibilities of our increasingly interdependent world. Learn more atwww.chancellor.uci.edu/cdfs.shtml.
