UC Irvine’s taekwondo team, part of the campus’s club sports program, is racking up national tournament titles this summer. In early July, sophomore Megan Yi won a gold medal in the black belt female senior division (ages 18-29) at the U.S.A. Taekwondo Championships in Chicago, earning her a spot on Team U.S.A. for the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships this fall in Indonesia. Earlier this summer, senior Nam Phan took home a gold medal in the male adult black belt senior division (ages 18-29) at the American Taekwondo United National Championships in Anaheim, and freshman Nikita Lee earned gold in the individual female black belt division at the U.S. Open Hanmadang Taekwondo Championships in Denver.
