UC Irvine News Brief: Roxane Cohen Silver

Roxane Cohen Silver, professor of psychology & social behavior, is in Chile this week to assist in earthquake recovery efforts and oversee the design of psychological interventions. An expert on trauma and coping, she was invited by the Universidad Andrés Bello, on behalf of the Chilean government. Silver will meet with the minister of health as well as other government, health, education and emergency response officials in devastated regions of the country. She’ll also meet with officials from the U.S. Embassy in Santiago and deliver public and professional lectures on coping with traumatic events. On Feb. 27, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck Chile, killing hundreds; destroying an estimated $8 billion worth of homes, schools and hospitals; and causing more than $1 billion in infrastructural damage.
