UCI’s Center for Hearing Research has received a $900,000 grant from the National Institute on Deafness & Other Communication Disorders to establish a multidisciplinary research program that will allow students and postdoctoral researchers to train broadly across multiple disciplines and advance efforts to solve hearing issues. Center faculty members come from the biological sciences, medicine, engineering, physical sciences and social sciences, according to director Raju Metherate (pictured), and students and postdocs in the program will be required to study in disciplines outside their own while receiving a core education in auditory neuroscience. “UCI is recognized as one of the nation’s leading centers for hearing research and patient care,” Metherate says. “This multidisciplinary program will only drive future advances and innovation in this critical field.”
