The UCI ANTrepreneur Center has entered a partnership with UCI Law’s Startup and Small Business Clinic. The SSBC was founded in 2018 to provide access to legal information for entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Orange County area. Under the supervision of SSBC Director Daniel J. Alexander II, UCI Law students work on a range of legal issues related to startups and small businesses, including matters pertaining to business formation, contract negotiation, hiring and more.

“We are thrilled to work with the SSBC and expand the critical resources we offer UCI’s student entrepreneurs,” says Ryan Foland, director of the ANTrepreneur Center. “This partnership will allow us to provide free legal assistance and support that our students may not otherwise have access to as early-stage entrepreneurs. With trusted legal guidance at their disposal, students can feel confident knowing that they are building a solid foundation for their businesses.”

Alexander also emphasizes the value that legal assistance will provide to student entrepreneurs:

“Because founders are often focused on raising capital, developing their products, and marketing their business, they may not prioritize the legal requirements that come with running a business and becoming an employer. Unfortunately, failure to properly address these issues could result in significant liability for the company and its founders, clipping the business’s wings before it ever has a chance to get off the ground. We want to prevent this by building a pipeline for ANTrepreneur Center students to take advantage of start-up legal resources and support. This partnership also exposes SSBC Associates to the dynamic start-ups being created right here on campus and offers them experience working with a diverse array of clients.”

Starting Week 1 of Fall Quarter 2022, students will have the opportunity to attend Legal Office Hours on Mondays from 3:00-4:00 pm and Fridays from 12:00-3:00 pm at the ANTrepreneur Center. Students can also schedule one-on-one meetings with Alexander or an SSBC Associate through the ANTrepreneur Center’s CampusGroups page.
