UCI ‘strongly’ encouraging indoor masking but not requiring yet

UC Irvine is still “strongly encouraging” individuals to don face coverings while indoors — at least for now. UCI spokesman Tom Vasich said the UC system assesses COVID-19 data county-by-county to make masking determinations. And UCI could reinstate a mandate should Orange County’s numbers dictate a need, he said. “We are strongly encouraging the use of masks indoors — with the word ‘strongly’ underlined,” Vasich said. Masks will currently not be required during the upcoming June 15 all-university graduation event at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. However, face coverings will be mandated during school-specific indoor ceremonies.
