Dr. Shruti Gohil, [an assistant] professor of infectious disease at the University of California, Irvine, said Thursday that the country remains in a transition that she expects to last at least through the fall. “We’re building community-level immunity to this virus, but the problem with COVID or any new virus is that you don’t really know how long immunity like that lasts until time has passed,” Gohil said. “Unsatisfying.”
