More evidence of COVID’s crushing mental-health toll on healthcare workers

Dr. Sarah Martin, [professor in residence, School of Medicine], and colleagues of the University of California, Irvine, surveyed 20 attending pediatric emergency medicine physicians (10 female) working in a children’s hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their median age was 44 years. More than one third of them (35%) reported high levels of depersonalization, and a similar percentage reported moderate levels of emotional exhaustion. Perfectionism was the only characteristic associated with burnout.
