Andrew Noymer, a UC Irvine [associate] professor of population health and disease prevention, said he’s not currently worried about the variant because transmission of the virus is low, which he attributes partly to the seasonal nature of the virus. “Delta is becoming a larger percentage, but it’s becoming a larger percentage of a very small pie,” Noymer said. However, Noymer is concerned about Delta’s and other variant’s capacities to spread once fall and winter roll around.
