At the same time, researchers at the prestigious University of California, Irvine told us that Orange County was a mere 20 days from reaching Italy’s level of hospital overload. That prediction was shocking at the time – and shockingly wrong looking backward. Keep in mind that Orange County’s population is over 3.2 million – larger than 22 states – as you consider these facts: 25 local hospitals report that they have 5,903 available beds and 809 ventilators.
