UC system: $558M in COVID-19 costs

University of California-Irvine estimated it will lose or refund $45.2 million in housing and dining operations revenue in the spring semester, from effects of the coronavirus pandemic on its operations. Its endowment in 2019 topped $1 billion. University of California campuses and medical centers overall lost $558 million, via refunds and new expenses in March, UC President Janet Napolitano said in a letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
