Orange County releases coronavirus case counts by city, announces 2 more deaths

UC Irvine Public Health Professor Andrew Noymer, who studies pandemics, said the county’s newest data tells him that “going forward these numbers are going to even out a lot more and they’re going to be more proportional to population.” The bigger numbers of COVID-19 cases in Newport Beach and Irvine may be “vestiges of travel-related COVID,” meaning their more affluent residents have the means and motives to have traveled internationally, he said. … Noymer said epidemics tend to smolder for awhile before exploding, so people should expect to see continued spread of the virus in Orange County.
