Political science professor Etel Solingen, the Thomas T. & Elizabeth C. Tierney Chair in Global Peace & Conflict Studies, has received a $718,350 grant for her project entitled “The Role of Design & Production Networks in East Asia Peace & Security.” As part of a $3.7 million research/training award from the UC Laboratory Fees Research Program shared by UCI, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Solingen will involve faculty and grad students from across disciplines â€“ including business, engineering, humanities, informatics, social ecology and social sciences â€“ in her two-year study of global value chains. The larger, multicampus project is called “Great Power Competition in the 21st Century: The Struggle for Technological, Economic & Strategic Supremacy.”
