EVENT: Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of the popular social news and entertainment site Reddit, will talk about using the Internet as a power for good, the topic of his new book, Without Their Permission: How the 21st Century Will Be Made, Not Managed. Ohanian’s entrepreneurial spirit has led him to create or fund more than 60 tech startups since he graduated from the University of Virginia in 2005.

BACKGROUND: Ohanian’s visit to UC Irvine is part of his national book tour. The event will be led by Bill Maurer, dean of UC Irvine’s School of Social Sciences, professor of anthropology and law, and director/co-director of two tech-focused campus research centers: the Institute for Money, Technology & Financial Inclusion and the Intel Science & Technology Center for Social Computing. Joining him will be UC Irvine alumnus and entrepreneur David M. Ochi ’97, MBA ’99, founder of numerous companies and executive director of the UC Irvine Antrepreneur Center.
