David Newman, a research scientist in the UC Irvine Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, has been awarded 325,000 hours on a supercomputer at the San Diego Supercomputing Center to support his text mining research. The supercomputer, which has the memory capacity to tackle important data sets that normal machines cannot, will help Newman find ways to better assist users in retrieving information from huge text collections like Wikipedia and The New York Times archive.
