Irvine, Calif., Sept. 10, 2013 – UC Irvine remained in the top 50 in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of the nation’s top colleges and universities released today,  sharing the No. 49 spot with Northeastern University, Mass., and University of Florida.

Among public universities, UC Irvine tied for 14th nationwide with University of Florida.

In addition to UC Irvine, five other UC schools scored in the nation’s top 30 public universities. UC Berkeley maintained its place at the top with UCLA ranking second. UC Davis and UC San Diego tied for the No. 9 spot, while UC Santa Barbara ranked No. 11.

The rankings’ methodology emphasizes factors such as endowments, alumni giving and student-faculty ratios that tend to favor private universities.

U.S. News & World Report also ranked engineering schools. The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UC Irvine was listed at 49th nationwide.
