Under a cooperative agreement, Campus Recreation–which conducts sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding classes and oversees the UCI sailing team–will provide year-round boating programs at Newport Beach’s new boating and recreation facility, Marina Park. Located between 15th and 18th streets on Newport Peninsula, the 10.5-acre park includes a community center, sailing center and cafe. It will accommodate expanded classes and hours and offer internship and job opportunities for UCI students. Certified members of the UCI Sailing Association will be able to check out boats. The partnership builds on UCI’s storied history on local waters. The campus will gain recognition for supervising world-class boating programs for the larger community and be able to utilize new high-performance boats and the latest in stand-up paddleboard and kayak gear. For more information about UCI’s boating programs, visit www.campusrec.uci.edu/outdoor or contact Campus Recreation directly at 949-824-3738. Registration for Marina Park boating classes can be accomplished through www.newportbeachca.gov.
