Irvine, California, April 2, 2015 – Friends of the Dalai Lama announced today that tickets for the Global Compassion Summit, the three-day, official world celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday, will go on sale at 10 a.m. PDT today.

His Holiness will attend events on all three days, as world leaders, Nobel laureates, celebrity guests and artists gather to share their best wishes. With the intention of inspiring compassionate action within His Holiness’ diverse global audience, the Global Compassion Summit will spark dialogues on the role of compassion in the environment, the arts and youth leadership.

The event on Sunday, July 5, at Honda Center will take place from noon to 3:30 p.m.

His Holiness’ world birthday celebration will feature extraordinary performances by Tibetan children and world-renowned musicians, as well as a public talk by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a discussion on Awakening Compassion: The Transformative Power of Creativity and Art.

“We are honored to team with UC Irvine, Center for Living Peace and Friends of the Dalai Lama to host an event of this magnitude, one that will be celebrated by thousands in person and millions of others around the world,” said Tim Ryan, President/CEO of Honda Center.  “With Anaheim’s ongoing initiatives focused on kindness, the Global Compassion Summit is a natural fit for our city and we feel privileged to be the kickoff event for something that is sure to generate individual and communal positivity.”

Two sessions on Monday, July 6, and one session on Tuesday, July 7, will be held at the Bren Events Center at UC Irvine. These events will feature conversations with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and world leaders on climate change and education, as well as a forum for His Holiness and other Nobel Laureates. Full details and schedule of events are at www.HHDL80.org, which will be updated continuously as the summit approaches.

About UC Irvine: UC Irvine’s connection with the Dalai Lama dates back to his first visit in 1989. A subsequent visit in 2004 inspired the creation of the XIV Dalai Lama Endowed Scholarship. Since then, 12 scholars have married the values of ethical leadership, peace and positive global relations with the university’s mission of public service to the community with such projects as “Compassion in Medicine,” “Kindness Month” and the “Peace Flag Project.” The Dalai Lama spoke to a sold-out arena at UCI in 2011 and has maintained correspondence with students about gratitude and compassion in action. The Dalai Lama and UCI leadership are aligned in support of holistic education as a path to a better world. For more on UCI, visit http://www.uci.edu/
