Assistant professor of Earth system science and ecology & evolutionary biology will focus on the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus in plankton and its role in regulating global nutrient cycles.
UCI environmental microbiologist Adam Martiny will lead a five-year, $3 million National Science Foundation study of biodiversity in the world’s oceans and how it’s affecting and being affected by climate change. An assistant professor of Earth system science and ecology & evolutionary biology, Martiny will focus on the ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus in plankton and its role in regulating global nutrient cycles. Study collaborators are from UC San Diego, Princeton University, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.
