Carrie Reiling, a UC Irvine graduate student in political science, has been awarded a competitive Fulbright grant to study in Ivory Coast next year. The award will support her research on how nongovernmental organizations strive to ensure security for women in the West African country while navigating the region’s tumultuous political landscape and priorities. She has conducted fieldwork in Senegal and at United Nations headquarters in New York, and her studies have been backed by UC Irvine’s Department of Political Science, Center for Global Peace & Conflict Studies, Interdisciplinary Center for the Scientific Study of Ethics & Morality, and Center in Law, Society & Culture. Reiling earned a bachelor’s degree in peace studies and English at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota and a master’s degree in gender and international relations at the University of Bristol in England. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the largest international exchange program in the country, annually funds 1,900 scholars pursuing research in 140 nations.
